THE APPIAN WAY

The client wanted to provide the best daycare in the area with as big a building that could fit on the 1.5-acres site.

We were able to utilize an underground storm water storage system rather than a traditional pond by collaborating with Cultec, making the best use of the acquired land to implement all the proposed features of the daycare center.

Using Cultec's patented technology, we are able to store site stormwater underneath the parking field, while adhering to the City of Oviedo and SJRWMD code requirements.

The client wanted to provide the best daycare in the area and provide the community with as big a building as could fit on the 1.5-acres site to help the parents take care of their children.

The project is located within the City of Oviedo, just east of S. Central Ave. and across from Clark Street. It is a +10,000 SF daycare building to help serve the parents in the area and take care of approximately 160 students ranging from preschoolers to toddlers. There are eight classrooms with three different playgrounds to accommodate the different age groups.

The biggest struggle for this site was incorporating a storm water storage system since a traditional pond was not feasible since there was not enough acquired land to carve one out and implement all the proposed features for the daycare center. Thus, an underground storage system was utilized under the parking field to adhere to the City and Water Management Districts code requirements for the development’s storm water storage.

The site was so small that stormwater treatment and storage could not be accomplished using traditional engineering practices but rather using a technology that Cultec, Inc. had patented. In collaboration with them, the stormwater for the entire site was to be stored underneath the parking field using their chamber system to properly store and treat the stormwater while adhering to the City of Oviedo and SJRWMD requirements.
